Albany Police said officers were called to Albany Medical Center Hospital at around 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, for a 3-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound.
Investigators determined that the boy was with relatives inside a home near Lark Drive and Manning Boulevard when a firearm was discharged inside the residence, striking him in the upper shoulder area.
The child was conscious and alert when he arrived at the hospital, police said. His condition was not made public.
Albany Police said the incident is under investigation. Addressing the shooting on X, Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan called it “completely preventable” and blamed a failure to secure a weapon in the presence of children.
“I am confident our dedicated Albany Police Department will quickly determine what occurred in that home and ensure those responsible are held accountable,” she said.
No arrests had been made as of Wednesday, March 27.
